LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT EDUCATIONAL TOOLKIT
Purpose of the toolkit
The intention of this toolkit is to analyse how organisations can develop leaders who have the competences necessary to ensure the sustainability of companies, through its leadership roles and to facilitate workers’ performance in business organisations. It also aims to help individuals become more engaged and better equipped to play senior leadership roles in their organisation by developing them for greater levels of responsibility and effectiveness. It is believed that most organisational processes (change, talent, teams, engagement, innovation, collaboration) cling on the quality of leadership.
Leadership development refers to activities which enhances the quality of leadership within an individual or organisation. Leadership development has focused traditionally on developing the leadership abilities and attitudes of individuals. The present review does not claim to be exhaustive; rather, it will focus on recent practices and research that have been implemented or published, typically within the past years. Furthermore, given the relative dearth of scholarly research directly on the topic, most of what is reviewed has implications for leadership development, as opposed to being conceptualized primarily within a leadership development framework. The research review and discussion is intended to spark interest among future leadership development researchers.
